What is on the AWS Cloud Practitioner CLF-C02 exam?

AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner is a foundational certification for people who need overall AWS Cloud knowledge without being tied to a single technical role. The CLF-C02 exam covers four domains:

  • Cloud Concepts: 24%;
  • Security and Compliance: 30%;
  • Cloud Technology and Services: 34%; and
  • Billing, Pricing, and Support: 12%.

AWS lists 65 questions in 90 minutes. Fifty questions are scored and 15 are unscored, and the unscored questions are not identified. The exam uses multiple-choice and multiple-response items and reports results on a 100–1,000 scale with 700 as the minimum passing score.

Who is CLF-C02 for?

The exam is useful for learners building an AWS foundation and for business, sales, project, finance, compliance, or technical professionals who need to discuss AWS services and responsibilities accurately. It is not a substitute for role-specific architecture or operations experience.

How to study each CLF-C02 domain

Understand elasticity, high availability, agility, global reach, economies of scale, migration approaches, and the AWS Well-Architected Framework. Connect the cloud benefit to a business or technical requirement.

Security and Compliance

Learn the shared responsibility model, identity and access concepts, data protection, compliance resources, and security services at the level described by the exam guide. Be precise about which responsibilities belong to AWS and which remain with the customer.

Cloud Technology and Services

Compare the purpose of major compute, storage, database, networking, analytics, integration, and management services. Focus on selecting a service family from a requirement rather than memorising every feature.

Billing, Pricing, and Support

Study pricing models, cost-management tools, budgets, support options, and the resources AWS provides for technical guidance. Practise matching a cost or support need to the correct tool.

A practical CLF-C02 study sequence

  1. Read the current AWS exam guide and list the four domains.
  2. Complete the relevant AWS Skill Builder or official learning modules.
  3. Build a one-page service comparison grouped by purpose.
  4. Use the AWS Pricing Calculator or documentation to understand cost drivers without creating paid resources.
  5. Take short practice sets and explain every distractor.
  6. Complete a 65-question, 90-minute mock under exam-like conditions.
  7. Revisit only the domains and decision types shown to be weak.

Questions to ask while studying AWS services

For each service, answer:

  • What problem does it solve?
  • Is the customer managing infrastructure, configuration, data, or all three?
  • What availability or scaling characteristic matters?
  • What is the main cost driver?
  • Which similar service would be a plausible distractor, and why is it different?

How to use AWS Cloud Practitioner practice exams

Start with a diagnostic only after you know the basic vocabulary. During review, separate misses into service selection, security responsibility, cloud benefit, cost/support, and reading errors.

Do not chase repeated high scores on the same question set. Rotation matters because recognizing an answer is easier than independently applying the concept. Use a full mock to test pacing and mixed-domain decision-making; use short sets to repair one weak area.

Common CLF-C02 mistakes

  • Treating every question as deeply technical when the requirement is conceptual.
  • Confusing AWS responsibility with customer responsibility.
  • Learning service names without a use case.
  • Ignoring billing and support because their domain weight is smaller.
